Castiglione del Lago & Città della Pieve - Peace, tranquillity and picturesque glimpses
Lake Trasimeno, although it is the fourth largest lake in Italy, is a small mirror of water framed by rolling hills where small villages are set.
In Castiglione del Lago it is worth visiting the Rocca del Leone, a splendid example of medieval fortification with secret passages and a breath-taking view of the Trasimeno.
Isola Maggiore is a place of peace and tranquillity, without cars or too many noises. Panicale is famous for its beautiful views, great for unforgettable photos. Both in Isola Maggiore and in Panicale the ancient traditions of embroidery on lace and tulle are kept alive, with small museums dedicated to this delicate art. Città della Pieve is the birthplace of the Renaissance painter Pietro Vannucci, the "Perugino", who left important traces of his work here: “The Adoration of the Magi” in the Oratory of Santa Maria dei Bianchi, “The Baptism of Christ” in the Cathedral, “The Deposition from the Cross” in the Diocesan Civic Museum of Santa Maria dei Servi: discover these beauties following one of the dedicated path, before tasting a dish with saffron, the main local product of the town.
