For over 50 years, the city of Torrita di Siena has been dedicating to Saint Joseph, i.e. the patron saint of carpenters, an entire week of celebration that includes historical re-enactments related to local crafts and wine-and-food, as well as the folkloristic and thrilling donkey race featuring the challenge between the jockeys of the 8 districts of the town. The race is generally held on the first Sunday after March 19, the day of Saint Joseph, and it is preceded by the usual performance of the drummers and flag-bearers, as well as by the historical parade, which gives life to a unique spectacle of sounds and colors.
